Our Ministry

Laurie Barnett - Founder

Shadows of the Messiah is a Bible teaching ministry for women founded by Laurie Barnett.

In her studies the Word of God is explored with emphasis placed on the revelation of the Lord Jesus within and the unity between the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament.

Laurie believes that one cannot fully understand the New Testament without understanding the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) as well. She also believes that the Lord Jesus Christ is the heart and soul of the entire written Word of God. It is as if Jesus casts a "shadow" across the pages of Holy Writ from before Genesis 1:1 to the final Amen of Revelation 22:21.

In fact, in Luke 24:27 following His resurrection, the Lord Jesus Himself shared this truth on the road to Emmaus: “And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.”

In other words, He revealed to His own followers the truths of the “pictures” of Him which were painted in the pages of the “Old” Testament..  the only Scriptures they had... and knew and loved.

Laurie's heart is centered on this type of Scripture study. In her classes, women sit together and uncover both the rich colorful history of their Biblical Hebrew foundations while exploring the life changing truths nestled within the Word of God.

“I am fully persuaded that studying God’s Word through the prism of the Hebraic roots of our Christian faith enriches us as believers more than we can imagine.  As we mature and grow in the knowledge of Messiah Jesus we can truly become “workmen who need not be ashamed… rightly dividing the Word of Truth” ~ Laurie Barnett, Founder

More than 25 years ago, Laurie began examining the Jewish background of the teachings of Jesus and of the New Testament.

Since then, she has spoken at women’s conferences and lead Bible studies in various congregations. Her enthusiastic style of teaching exalts the name of Jesus while sharing truths from God’s Word. It is her prayer that every woman grows in wisdom “until we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:13).

Laurie and her husband Tom are blessed with three grown children and seven grandchildren. They are serving the Lord at First Baptist Church of Rockwall, Texas.
